OUR INSPIRATION

Our son Oliver lives with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and developmental delays. Since his birth, we have focused on Oliver’s medical needs, therapies, and developing recreational activities appropriate for his abilities.

Play and socialization are critical for Oliver’s development but are very challenging to find in light of his complex needs. Many families face the same struggle.

Having a community to pass down information on resources and a shoulder to lean on have been valuable for us and we want to give back

Together, we will create a wonderful space where EVERYONE CAN PLAY THEIR WAY!

About the founder

Hi, I’m Rachel Kushner. I was born in Philadelphia and moved to San Diego to study marine biology. I graduated from San Diego State University with a B.S. and M.S. in marine ecology. I continued my studies at California Western School of Law and practiced civil litigation. I have stepped back from practicing law to focus on my family and this venture.

My husband Alonso and I have two sons. I get the struggle of being a special needs mom and having a neurotypical child too! We need spaces where everyone can play together.

I am a gregarious person with a silly side. I believe that inclusive play and community make life brighter for people with disabilities and their families.

My vision for Play My Way is to build a community center where people of all abilities are not just included but have a voice and a sense of belonging.

Please contact me with questions, ideas or just to say hi. I look forward to seeing all of you at Play My Way!
